Eddie Biedenbach Celebrity Golf Classic wraps up at Eagle Point
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — In less than two years Eagle Point will be the host course for the Wells Fargo PGA Tour event. On Monday we found more than our fair share of pros, but none who play golf for a living. “I did this tournament in Asheville to raise money for scholarships,” Eddie Biedenbach told us on Monday. “Having a guy like Tommy Hughes associated with Eagle Point and getting us this venue is just classic. Plus, we’ve got a great group of celebrities here.”
The group of celebrities include former NC State basketball standout and coach Sidney Lowe, along fellow Wolfpacker Tom Gugliotta. Both played in the NBA. “It’s just a beautiful event for two great causes,” Gugliotta said. “Obviously getting to play on a golf course with this quality is a lot of fun too.”
Proceeds from the event will not only benefit the Miracle League of Wilmington, but the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame too. Jennifer Bell is the executive director of the Miracle League of Wilmington. “We are blessed to be a benefactor of the Eddie Biedenbach Golf Classic,” Bell said. “We provide accessible and inclusive baseball for children and adults with disabilities. All of the people participating this weekend have really made a difference in so many lives and have given them the opportunities to play sports and to feel included and to feel celebrated for some of their very first times.”
Most of the celebrities in attendance on Monday have a basketball connection. It wasn’t hard to find the one group though with hockey on their minds. Chuck Kaiton is the voice of the Carolina Hurricanes. He wasn’t shy to grab the WWAY microphone. “We have a definite hurricane invasion here in Wilmington led by the captain of the 2006 Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes from 2006 Rod Brind’Amour whose doing a wonderful job as an assistant coach with this club right now. The power play was one of the best in the National Hockey League last year and Rod was responsible for that, and I might add he should be in the hall of fame too.”
