Edgewater Club Road clean-up delayed

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Work to remove rock from a road in New Hanover County is delayed by one day.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation said it postponed the closure of Edgewater Club Road because of expected heavy traffic Sunday.

Crews will now close the road starting around 9 a.m. Monday to begin removing a 500-foot temporary rock surface they built on top of the road earlier in October. Spokesman Brian Rick said the NCDOT expects crews to take most of the day to remove the rocks, clean off the road and inspect it.

Crews placed layers of rocks on the flooded section of the road to raise cars above floodwaters as they traveled along the road, enabling people in Porters Neck could use the road. It’s the only way out of the area by car.

The rocks being hauled away will be placed where a New Hanover County school is planned, where they could be used as part of the construction process.
