Emergency Management: ‘This is a significant threat for us’
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Emergency Management is in go mode, and the Emergency Operations Center is now in place.
This morning emergency personnel, along with North Carolina Highway Patrol and Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo got together to discuss how to keep folks in New Hanover County safe… And to go over what to do before and after the storm.
Emergency Management Director Warren Lee stressed the magnitude of the situation with Matthew expected to pass 25 to 30 miles off shore.
“We do want to emphasize that this is a significant event for us,” Lee said. “It is not one to be taken lightly. We continue to monitor the storms track with every advisory and are prepared to take measures as we need to.”
Lee also noted that people need to be aware of the high risk of flooding, and power outages likely to come along with the storm.
The Highway Patrol is also asking everyone to stay put while the hurricane is a threat.
