Engineer travels to help Pender County homeowner with solar system

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY)— A Pender County man says he received help from an out-of-state electrical engineer after struggling to get service on his solar energy system.

Mike Buck, who lives off Highway 421, signed a contract with Titan Solar in 2021. He said installation delays and a disconnected line left the system incomplete.

Buck said he owns a full Generac solar setup but could not find anyone to service it after Titan Solar filed for bankruptcy.

Grady Wells, an electrical engineer certified to work on Generac systems, traveled from Georgia to help. Wells said he saw Buck’s story online and wanted to assist.

“I’ve been noticing over the past few years that there has been a lot of solar companies that have gone out of business or left their customers hanging with equipment not working or whatever and I’d just figure I’d help somebody out,” Wells said.

Wells said the system is now running, but a battery backup is still needed. He said the part is on the way from Generac and that he plans to continue assisting Buck as needed.
