Enviromental activists worry a state commission will again delay new PFAS water standards

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Environmental advocates, stakeholders, and officials held a press conference Tuesday afternoon to talk about the presence of forever chemicals—also known as PFAS—in the Cape Fear River.
The Natural Resources Defense Council brought together a number of environmental advocates, such as Clean Cape Fear co-founder Emily Donovan, elected leaders like Wilmington City Council Member Salette Andrews, and stakeholders like Port City Java CEO Steven Schnitzler.
The conference comes ahead of the NC Environmental Management Commission’s meeting on Wednesday that will decide when and how new PFAS regulations will be implemented.
The last time the commission was scheduled to discuss the topic, they delayed implementing the regulations.
Many environmental advocates are worried the commission will again delay taking action.
