Event held to teach young kids healthy eating

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County preschool kids had a hands-on lesson in planting and eating healthy.

The county health services helped out with the annual “WIC Plant Day.” Kids got free plants, built bird houses and sipped on some fruit and vegetable smoothies. County health services staff say they want to reach children early when it comes to eating and living healthy.

“Research shows that the younger you start teaching kids about good nutrition the better they are going to be,” Fred Michael said. “So they are going to form those habits. So we really focus on three and four year olds.”

WIC is a supplement food and nutrition service. They expected more 200 kids to participate in plant day since all the daycares and pre-schools in the area were invited.
