Eyesore sits after city contractor’s permit expires

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Work to tear down the old Almont Shipping Warehouse in Wilmington has ground to a halt.

A crew hired by the city started to tear down the building at Front and Hanover Streets after the city condemned it April because the owner said it can’t pay for the work.

Last week as the work began, the city told us the work would take a week, but it’s still there. Work had to stop because the contractor’s permit expired. The contractor is now waiting on a new permit from the county.
