FAA air traffic control cuts cause ripple effect at Wilmington International Airport

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY-TV) – The Wilmington Internal Airport is starting to see impacts from the FAA air traffic control cuts on Friday.

While the airport is not directly impacted by less air traffic control, there is domino effect of flight delays and cancellations. Some flights to and from major airports such as Philadelphia and Washington D.C. were affected with a shortage of air traffic controllers.

One traveler, Mary Kern, was on her way to Washington D.C. to meet friends for a trip when her flight was delayed over two hours.

“I mean it stinks because we’ve been planning this for a while, it’s like the day were flying, you know, this happens, I’m hoping the government can get this squared away,” Kern said.

Jeff Bourke, the airport director advises travelers not to panic, but stay informed about their upcoming bookings for possible changes.
