Fairmont man pleads guilty to child abuse

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man pleaded guilty to felony child abuse, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, and driving while impaired which was related to a chase with law enforcement and collision that occurred in October 2023 in North Whiteville.

According to District Attorney Jon David’s office, Lonnie Fields of Fairmont, was sentenced at least 4 years in the custody of the Department of Adult Corrections and also ordered he participate in the Advanced Supervised Release program.

The incident was investigated by the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
