Family and friends gather to remember Shallotte man shot and killed in his home
SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — It was a somber evening in Shallotte as more than 50 people gathered for the viewing of a young man who was killed two weeks ago.
Friends and family of 21-year-old Seth Condrey gathered at White Funeral and Cremation in Shallotte on Tuesday night for a viewing.
Jaeden Zuzak said Condrey brought a lot of joy into the lives of others.
“He was really a just great guy who always tried to help anyone that he possibly could,” Zuzak said. “A character that just, he just lit up a room, everyone always gave a, gave a smile when he was around. He always made jokes, everyone always, everyone that I worked with always liked Seth. He was, he was really just a great guy who always tried to help anyone that he possibly could.”
Condey was shot and killed december 20th.
According to his family, he opened up his home, located on Jay Street in Shallotte, to 31-year-old Joshua Cully Crook, who needed a place to stay.
Later that night, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office said Crook was arrested and charged with shooting and killing Condrey inside the home.
Jonathan Cavenaugh said he couldn’t believe it when he heard what happened to his friend.
“Shocked, absolutely shocked,” Cavenaugh said. “He was the last person I would have ever thought I had seen that or gotten that call about. This is tough because you just never would have imagined something, somebody that you worked with and was close to and cared for and being so young just taken for no, for a careless reason.”
Condrey leaves behind a wife, Genevieve, and a young daughter, Bexley.
Zuzak said it’s special seeing how many people his friend had an impact on.
“It’s great and its not a surprise at all to see how many people have showed out for him tonight. He was always, he would do anything he could to help somebody else, whether it’s giving the clothes off his back or whatever he had to do, he was always there to help anybody.”
Condrey’s funeral will be held at 2 pm at White Funeral and Cremation.
His favorite colors were orange and green, so his family is asking anyone attending to wear those colors in his memory.
