Family displaced after mobile home fire in Southport UPDATE

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — A mobile home fire happened in Southport Thursday morning that left a family displaced.

According to the Southport Police Department’s Facebook page, West 12th Street and North Howe Street are back open to traffic after an early morning mobile home fire in the 1200 block of North Howe.

There were no injuries reported, and the American Red Cross has been notified.

Southport Fire Department is investigating the cause.

UPDATE (8:15 p.m.): Southport Police say the home belonged to a man who was not home at the time when the fire started around 9:30 a.m.

Multiple agencies responded, with the Southport Fire Department as the primary responder.

The Fire Department says a space heater was the likely cause of the fire.
