Family holds vigil for April Daugherty
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One week ago April Daugherty was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Shipyard Boulevard.
The vigil for April was held tonight in the Wells Fargo parking lot on Shipyard, just up the road from where she was killed.
Family said it was a chance to get some closure while police are still searching for the driver who killed her.
A small group of family and friends came together to find some type of closure after losing their friend, wife and daughter.
Ryan Schoolcraft, April’s husband remembers April as a happy woman that touched the lives of many.
“She knew a lot of people. She’s touched pretty much everyone’s heart here in Wilmington,” Ryan said. “She always had friends she always talked to people.”
April’s mother Roberta echoes that sentiment and adds that she finds closure in the fact that she knows her daughter is with God.
But Ryan hopes to find closure and wants the person responsible for April’s death to turn himself into police.
“I’d love for him to turn himself in so we have closure for the family, for both sides of the family,” Schoolcraft said. “I just wish he had a conscience and would turn himself in.”
Ryan said that April was someone who was always there for him and he will always love her.
And tonight as they remember the girl with the contagious smile, he just hopes that her life will never be forgotten.
Police are still looking for the driver of the vehicle.
They believe the driver was in a black Mercedes CL 500.
