FBI agents going door-to-door in Lumberton community where 3 women found dead in 2017
Lumberton, N.C. (WPDE) — FBI agents are in East Lumberton in and around East 5th Street, 8th Street and Peachtree Street Thursday where three women were found dead between April and June of 2017, according to FBI Charlotte Division Public Information Officer Shelley Lynch.
Lynch said agents are assisting Lumberton police in trying to gain new leads in the women’s deaths and to build a timeline as to when and where they were last seen to determine the circumstances of their deaths.
Neighbors in the area said the agents are going door to door and talking with people in the community.
The FBI announced a reward last month of up to $30,000 for information that helps investigators determine the circumstances that led to the deaths of Christina Bennett, Rhonda Jones and Megan Oxendine, all from Lumberton.
Bennett, known by her family as Kristin, was found dead inside a house on Peachtree St. in Lumberton on April 18, 2017.
Rhonda Jones was found dead outside of a house on East 5th St. in Lumberton on April 18, 2017.
Megan Oxendine was found dead outside of a house on East 8th St. in Lumberton on June 3, 2017.
The Lumberton Police Department requested assistance from the FBI last June in the three death investigations.
The FBI routinely provides help to local law enforcement partners when the FBI has tools, techniques or tactics that can benefit their investigations.
Investigators are asking anyone who came into contact with the women to come forward in order to help in creating a timeline of when and where they were last seen alive.
If you have any information in the deaths, you’re asked to call the FBI at (704) 672-6100.
