Fedora: DE Powell, OG Hatton could return to UNC on Tuesday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) – North Carolina coach Larry Fedora says defensive end Tyler Powell and offensive guard Tommy Hatton could return to the team Tuesday after dealing with personal issues.

Powell, a junior, hasn’t played this season. He warmed up to play in the season opener as a potential starter against Georgia in Atlanta. Hatton, a redshirt freshman, won the preseason battle for the starting right guard position against the Bulldogs but didn’t play at Illinois.

Neither practiced last week nor traveled with the team to Illinois for the 48-23 win.

Speaking Monday during his weekly news conference, Fedora said “I believe” both players will return Tuesday “as far as I know, as of today.” It’s unclear whether either would play for the Tar Heels (1-1) in Saturday’s home opener against James Madison.
