Fewer lifeguards will be on patrol now that Labor Day weekend has passed

Labor day weekend marks the unofficial end of the summer season and lifeguards across the cape fear will soon no longer be on patrol at area beaches.

Several beaches in our area that have lifeguards like Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach will be reducing their numbers as the weather starts to get cooler.

Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue captain Sam Proffitt explains, “so we’ll slowly start to break down and have less staff after you get through September then into October, but for us, our official last day is the last day in October.”

Proffitt adds just because you might see a lifeguard stand, you should still check to make sure a lifeguard is present.
