Fewer mosquitoes in New Hanover this season because it’s hot and dry
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (StarNews) — Less rain and higher temperatures could contribute to one the lowest mosquito spraying years on record in New Hanover County, according to officials with the county health department’s Environmental Health Vector Control.
Marie Hemmen of the health department said crews have not had to do a full spray of New Hanover County so far this season.
“I would say the last three to four years we have been in a drought even though we had the rain we had last year,” she said. “The mosquito populations aren’t what they used to be.”
