Full Court Press Dec. 6

videoThe first Full Court Press of the new high school basketball season is in the books. Chasity Melvin made her Full Court Press debut on WWAY on Friday night. We had basketball highlights from Ashley-71st, Hoggard-Millbrook, New Hanover-Jack Britt, Laney-East Columbus, Whiteville-East Bladen, South Brunswick-Cape Fear Academy and Trask-North Brunswick.

All Mideastern Conference awards announced

Laney's Coult Culler is the football player of the year. Hoggard's Scott Braswell has been named the coach of the year. 2013 Mideastern Conference awards and all-conference teams for all of the fall sports except football were released two weeks ago. All conference honors for football were announced today.

WWAY's Friday night sports - Nov. 29

videoHoggard was unable to hold onto the lead in the third round of the high school football state playoffs on Friday. James Kenan knocked Whiteville out of the playoffs. The Tigers will play Wallace-Rose Hill next. Both UNCW basketball teams lost on Friday. The Seahawk men lost at home. The Seahawk women lost in Cancun against former UNCW coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke and the USC Trojans.

WWAY's Monday night sports - November 25

videoThe basketball season is now underway for Hoggard High School. We had hoops action on WWAY on Monday night from Hebbe Gymnasium. The pairings are set for the 2013 Leon Brogden Holiday Basketball Tournament in Wilmington and the 2014 MLK Jamfest in Sampson County. Plus more!

Fonvielle offers lengthy statement on NCHSAA ruling

Jake Fonvielle is still steaming. South Columbus High's head football coach sent WWAY a lengthy response on Monday regarding his opinion on how the North Carolina High School Athletic Association handled a recent player eligibility ruling. The NCHSAA ruled in favor of Southern Vance over South Columbus.

Trot Nixon looks ahead to round 3 of playoffs

videoRound three for the high school football playoffs is just a few days away. In fact round thee will feature another home game for Hoggard. It's going to be a road playoff game though for the Whiteville Wolfpack. WWAY's Trot Nixon provides his perspective on the local gridiron action.

WWAY's Friday night sports - Nov. 22

videoTeams are starting to fall fast out of the state football playoffs. This does not include Hoggard or Whiteville though. On Friday night Hoggard defeated New Hanover in round two of the playoffs. Whiteville took care of business against Lakewood. We had postgame reaction from both of those affairs. We also showcased playoff action on Friday involving North Brunswick-Andrews and SW Onslow-East Bladen.
