Fire crews battle fast-moving blaze in Boiling Spring Lakes

BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC (WWAY) — Fire crews spent Thursday afternoon battling a blaze in Boiling Spring Lakes.
The fire occurred along the railroad tracks in the area of Funston Road around noon.
Due to the magnitude of the fire, additional crews were called in.
Forestry units got a plow in the woods and established a fire line around the perimeter of the approximately two-acre fire and the fire was declared as under control and contained.
Then, without warning the weather shifted, and winds changed directions causing the fire to jump the line and take off, quickly growing and moving, according to fire crews.
NC Forestry maintained the lead and immediately got additional resources mobilized, bringing additional ground units as well as air support. At roughly 9:30 p.m., the fire was declared contained and under control again and units began clearing up.
