WFD puts out brush-cutting equipment fire

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Sunday afternoon Wilmington Fire Department crews put out a fire involving brush-cutting equipment in a wooded in the 2500 Block of Independence Boulevard.

Wilmington Fire, New Hanover Regional EMS, Wilmington Police and NC Forestry Service all responded to the call.

According to fire department officials crews determined the equipment that was on fire was in the woods about a half mile from the roadway. The equipment was in use at the time of the fire. Officials say the fire spread from the equipment to the surrounding woods and brush.

In addition to the brush-cutting equipment, which was a total loss, more than a half-acre of woods were burned.

There were no injuries.

The fire was believed to have started due to hot engine parts coming in contact with vegetation.
