Fire damages junk yard, iconic museum in Supply
SUPPLY, NC (WWAY) – A fire over the weekend torched parts of a locally renowned museum in Supply that also lead crews to close parts of Stone Chimney Road.
David Robinson with Coastline Fire and Rescue says just before 4:00 P.M. Saturday, a fire broke out at Varnam’s Junk Yard. The yard is also known as the Fort Apache Museum.
Robinson says the owner lost control of a debris fire that quickly spread to an adjacent vehicle and other debris piles before being extinguished. There were no injuries.
The yard was formerly featured on the History Channel series ‘American Pickers’ and sits as an icon for Varnamtown and Supply neighbors.
Tri-Beach Fire is credited with dousing the blaze with support from Civietown FD and Grissetown Longwood FD.
