Fire destroys firefighter’s home
LELAND, N.C (WWAY) — A Winnabow firefighter’s home caught fire this morning. The electrical fire started inside the home, while he and his family were out for breakfast.
The interior of the home is destroyed with nothing left behind.
Neighbors say smoke could be seen coming from the house around eight this morning. Within a matter of minutes, firefighters were on the scene and were able to put the fire out in 20 minutes. Two dogs were in the house at the time of the fire. The owner was able to save one dog by giving “mouth-to-snout” resuscitation and was brought to a local veterinarian office but one dog died in the incident.
John Grimes, Chief of Fire and Emergency Services for Leland fire rescue, says the family is accepting donations to help them through this time.
“We’re going to ask the community that if they would, provide gift cards…not clothes or furniture,” Grimes said.
You can drop-off donations at the Winnabow fire department.
