Fire Marshals rule Wednesday evening Market Street fire accidental; building a total loss

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A massive fire which broke out in a building along Market Street on Wednesday evening has been ruled accidental.

The Wilmington Fire Department was called to 6820 Market Street around 5:30 p.m. for a working structure fire. Heavy smoke and flames were showing when they arrived.

A lane of Market Street was blocked for a time while firefighters were handling the situation.

Crews worked to quickly get the fire under control at the 11-unit building. Seven of the 11 units were damaged, but officials say the building will be deemed a total loss.

Thankfully, there were no injuries.
