Fire stations welcome trick-or-treaters on Halloween
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Many towns and community groups have canceled trick-or-treating celebrations this year due to concerns about COVID-19 but the Wilmington Fire Department is planning to host a safe event for children.
Each of the department’s nine fire stations will be open for parents and their children who want to walk up for treats on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m.
Everyone is required to wear a Covid mask and not the scary kind to help limit the spread of the illness.
In addition to the Wilmington fire stations, four locations in New Hanover County are also taking part including the Wrightsboro, Porter’s Neck, Murrayville and Myrtle Grove fire stations.
“We have pre-packaged the goodies so no one is sticking their hands in the basket to find their favorite piece of candy, everyone will have a goody bag,” said WFD Spokeswoman Rebekah Thurston.
WFD also that you not park in front of the bay doors so the fire trucks can leave quickly if they receive an emergency call. No one will be allowed to come inside the fire stations.
