Firefighter speaks about importance of working on Christmas
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — While many people enjoy Christmas with their family and friends, others spend the day working, ensuring everything continues running smoothly.
One of the most common professions that works on Christmas is firefighters.
Three members of Wilmington Fire Department Station 9 worked on Wednesday, responding to any calls that may arise.
The station already responded to a call earlier in the day, in which a fire alarm went off while someone was preparing their Christmas dinner.
Firefighter Jonathan Debona said their ability to help people isn’t affected just because Wednesday is Christmas.
“Nope, every day is the same. 365 days we’re here,” Debona said. “We don’t shut down for Christmas, you’re going to get the same level of response and the same level of performance from us. We’re going to bring our A game, even though its Christmas.”
Debona said community members showed their support for the station by dropping off donuts for them to enjoy.
