Firefighters, cops to ride bikes across state to honor fallen

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Carolina Brotherhood hit the road this morning to honor the fallen. The cycling pact is made up of firefighters and police officers from all over the Carolinas, and it kicked off right here in Wilmington.

This year, the ride is dedicated to Capt. Jeffery Bowen from the Asheville Fire Department. He died last year while battling a structure fire.

The five-day ride will cover nearly 400 miles, making overnight stops in Elizabethtown, Rockingham, Charlotte and Forest City. The cyclists will arrive to their final destination in Asheville Friday.
