Firefighters use puppets to teach kids about fire safety
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Fire Department tried out their acting chops today over at the New Hanover County Library in downtown Wilmington.
The firefighters performed a musical puppet show for area kids to teach them about fire safety and to show them that firefighters are not scary, even with all their gear on.
The information wasn’t just for kids either. The program had important facts about smoke detectors, fire drills, and even home evacuation plans.
“Every family should practice and plan, plan and practice their evacuation plan and have a safe meeting place outside so we know, when the firetruck pulls up, everyone is safe and sound and whether a rescue effort needs to be made,” said Wendy Giannini, the Wilmington Fire Department Public Educator.
Kids were able to ask the firefighters questions about their job and everyone went home with some new tips to staying safe in an emergency.
