FIRST ON 3: 16-year-old arrested for cocaine, booze at Ashley HS

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A 16-year-old girl has been arrested for allegedly having drugs and alcohol today at Ashley High School.

Investigators say Mikayla Ann Wright and three other students were found on campus but not it class. The students were taken to school administrators, who found a small vial containing a white powder and a mini bottle of liquor in Wright’s purse.

A New Hanover County Sheriff’s spokesman says Wright is charged with felony possession of cocaine, misdemeanor possession of alcohol and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. She was booked into the New Hanover County Jail under $10,000 secured bond.

When asked about the arrest, a school district spokeswoman told WWAY she could not speak to any specifics, but that the district has a zero-tolerance policy for drugs.
