FIRST ON 3: Belville, Leland town leaders agree to open ABC store in Leland
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — The town of Leland is one step closer to getting its own ABC store.
Up until now, Belville has been the only town in northern Brunswick County with rights to an ABC board.
Two years ago, the battle began over allowing Leland to make their own ABC board. At the time, Belville’s mayor told us alcohol sales are basically how Belville got started. They were concerned over losing the revenue alcohol sales generate for the town.
Today, Belville Commissioner Joe Breault told us both towns have agreed on terms and conditions to allow Leland to put an ABC Store in Brunswick Forest.
“I want to publicly commend the chairman of the ABC Board John Clarke as well as all of the representatives of Leland, mayor Bozeman and her entire staff for the work and the effort that have gone into this,” Breault said. “This has been a joint venture between the two towns and is the epitome of cooperation.”
Breault said there is no timeline for the store yet.
