First Responders unite for fun and fundraising at kickball tournament
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — First responders in our community took a break from their demanding roles to enjoy a well-deserved day of fun at the 3rd Annual New Hanover County First Responders Kickball Tournament.
Held at Buck Hardee Field, this year’s tournament served as a fundraiser benefiting the Wilmington Professional Firefighters Charitable Fund.
All proceeds from the event will directly support first responders in New Hanover County who require financial assistance.
Teams comprised of players from various first responder agencies, including the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Wilmington Police Department, and New Hanover EMS, engaged in some friendly competition throughout the day.
Event founder and coordinator Kieran Schwartz spoke about the significance of the tournament, emphasizing its role in providing a much-needed outlet for first responders.
“A lot of first responders deal with a lot on a day-to-day basis. This event gives them a way to come out, just de-stress, and enjoy being with each other without having to worry about work,” Schwartz said.
This year marks Schwartz’s final time coordinating the event, and he encouraged others to get involved. If you’re interested in stepping up to the plate, reach out to them on their social media for more information on how you can participate in future events.
