First set of BEMC employees return from Western North Carolina

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Friday September 27th, Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation (BEMC) sent 18 crewmembers to assist in restoring electricity to those left in the dark after Helene.

The team that has been sent to assist has been attributed to restoring power for several hundred customers. They have returned back home Friday afternoon, and another crew left to head out west in the state.

Brookes Versaggi, the manager of member engagement and communication for BEMC says they are just glad they can help.

“One of our principles is mutual aid, we are glad to help other cooperatives when they need help and they’re happy to help us as well. In this case, with the devastation of the storm, they reached out and asked if we had any extra crew that we could send to help. We’re really proud to be a part of this restoration effort and we’ll continue to send people as long as we need to, until everyone’s power is back on,” Versaggi said.

Versaggi adds their hearts go out to Western North Carolina and those affected by Helene.
