Five dead in Bladen County Crash between Tar Heel and Saint Pauls

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Five people, including four children, were killed in a crash Sunday afternoon at the intersection of NC 20 and Purdie-Hall Road, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 3:45 p.m. when a commercial truck traveling east on NC 20 collided with an SUV traveling south on Purdie-Hall Road. Authorities said the driver of the SUV failed to yield at the intersection and proceeded into the path of the truck.

The driver of the SUV, identified as Maribel Hernandez, 36, of Red Springs, and four minors in the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the commercial truck was not hurt.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed that no charges will be filed in the crash, as the fault lies with the driver of the SUV.

The intersection is located between Tar Heel and Saint Pauls.
