WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Flagship Healthcare Properties has acquired a former corporate office building in Wilmington, with plans to convert the space into an outpatient healthcare center.

The three-story, 153,526-square-foot building at 3601 Converse Road, previously occupied by Verizon, will be renamed Flagship Medical Plaza and is expected to house a range of medical services.

Novant Health has committed to leasing two floors in the building and will begin offering outpatient services in 2025. Novant will provide specialized physicians, lab services, imaging, and infusion therapy across two floors.

Ernie Bovio, president of Novant Health’s Coastal Region and New Hanover Regional Medical Center, emphasized the importance of the new facility in meeting the region’s growing healthcare needs. “We continue to recruit new physicians to the area to care for our growing community, and a building of this size will provide us operational flexibility to configure physician clinic space as needed to serve our patients,” Bovio said in a news release.

The acquisition and renovation project is part of Flagship’s ongoing strategy to repurpose properties into healthcare facilities. “Flagship is in the business of finding creative solutions to bring value to its investors and healthcare provider clients alike,” said Thorn Baccich, executive vice president of development at Flagship. “With this project, we have achieved both.”

The property is less than two miles from Novant Health’s 800-bed New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Flagship sees this project as a strategic response to the area’s healthcare demands, driven by Wilmington’s diverse and growing economy.
