Flamboyance flocks downtown as flamingo fundraiser brings joy to Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A flamboyance of flamingos descended upon downtown Wilmington Tuesday afternoon, spreading happiness while also raising money.

Nearly a dozen women dressed up as flamingos and walked throughout downtown, placing flamingo hats on other adults and children.

The group is raising money for the Castle Hayne-based SkyWatch Bird Rescue.

The ladies will even go to people’s houses and flock outside them.

Claire Renaud is the captain of the flamboyance.

She said while raising money is important, she also enjoys spreading joy to the people walking around downtown.

“The raising money part is awesome and important, but for me, the most important part is don’t take yourself too seriously, go have a good time, spread joy and make people smile,” Renaud said.

Over the past 2 years, Claire and her group have raised more than $2000 for SkyWatch.
