Floating home which caused controversy in Wrightsville Beach moved to Carolina beach

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A floating home that has caused controversy in Wrightsville Beach has moved to Carolina Beach.

The vessel is currently at the Carolina Beach Yacht Club, but only for another few nights.

Carolina Beach’s deputy town manager says the town accepted a 10-day reservation for the floating home to be anchored in the town’s mooring field, south of Snow’s Cut, starting Friday.

The town’s harbormasters says it’s registered as a pleasure craft vessel and meets the requirements to be in the mooring field.

Carolina Beach resident Jared Stanton said it’s an eyesore, but he’s not too concerned.

“I don’t see an issue, just as long as it’s not long-term,” Stanton said. “You know, as long as it’s a short stay, it doesn’t really matter, but we don’t want any people living in big houseboats, probably in the basin.”

The home is named AquaVita.

It’s owned by Wade Miller of Copper Builders, the company behind a proposed 4,ooo plus home development in Sledge Forest in northern New Hanover County.

WWAY reached out to both Miller and Copper Builders for comment, but has not heard back.
