Floating lanterns light up the night

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — People of all ages made their way to the Cameron Art Museum for the Second Annual Floating Lantern Ceremony.

Families came to the museum to purchase a lantern and decorate it.

Christmas wishes, funny pictures and memories drawn on the paper lanterns before they were released to float on the pond.

Hundreds of lanterns lit up the area as people watched the orange glow.

We caught up with a few people from right here in Wilmington and asked how they decorated their lanterns.

“I made my lantern for a kitten I had earlier this year and I no longer have her, she ran away.” Bree Nidds said.

“”We drew some leaves with a vine,” Alex Williamson said. “Then we cut it out so the light would shine through it.”

Aaron Grassi said “On one side we drew symbols of things that our family members that passed away liked.”

Organizers said the ceremony was a peaceful, family-oriented and environmentally-friendly event for all to enjoy.
