Flower Launch celebrates those who help children
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Child Abuse Prevention Coalition hosted the 12th Annual Flower Launch tonight. It took place at the Henrietta Dock in downtown Wilmington.
Each flower honors those who nurture and protect local children. The flowers were then launched into the Cape Fear River as part of the ceremony.
The event also featured speakers, singing, and recognition of community members.
“We do the annual flower launch where we really are celebrating each other, that are doing the hard work of helping kids to be safe and also to help them heal,” said Amy Feath, Executive Director of the Carousel Center. “So it’s all of your professionals that are actually in our community every day working tirelessly to ensure that children are safe and healthy.”
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Feath adds that the Flower Launch helps reinvigorate the efforts to do more so that children don’t have to be in a situation where they’ve been abused on neglected.
