Flu claimed 11 more NC lives last week
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Eleven people in North Carolina died last week of the flu, according to new information from the NC Department of Health and Human Services. That brings the season total in the state to 119 deaths.
The numbers of deaths is down from a season high of 28 a week earlier.
NCDHHS says reports of flu-like illness are decreasing across the state, but the flu is still widespread.
The CDC estimates as many as 26,700 people have died of the flu since the season started in October and that more than 20 million people have gotten the illness. The CDC says it is not too late to get a flu vaccine.
Flu season officially ends May 18.
