Fmr. Leland officer pleads guilty to attempted murder

HORRY COUNTY, SC, (WPDE) — A North Carolina man pled guilty to two counts of attempted murder after shooting at police during a high speed chase through two states in 2014, according to the Horry County Solicitor's Office.

Howard Henry "Hank" Smith, a former Leland, N.C. police officer, was charged with the two counts in Horry County after police said he fired at officers on S.C. 31 during the chase.

Judge Larry Hyman sentenced Smith to 20 years on each charge to run concurrently.
