Foot chase ends with man being arrested inside Wilmington gym

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man has been arrested after attempting to bite a police officer and then leading them on a foot chase into an O2 Fitness in Wilmington, according to authorities.

The Wilmington Police Department says just before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Onyx Kennedy gave a crash investigator fake information after an accident in the Home Depot parking lot off Racine Drive.

The investigator called WPD officers, who tried to arrest Kennedy for reportedly giving false information.

Police say Kennedy resisted and attempted to bite one of the officers before running off. Officers pursued him to O2 Fitness, where he was found hiding behind a juice bar.

Kennedy had six outstanding warrant prior to Wednesday. He now faces more charges.

In August 2020, Kennedy was charged with affray after getting into a fight with another man at the intersection of 7th and Castle streets.
