NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A former Anderson Elementary School teacher has been charged with assaulting two children, according to New Hanover County court documents.

The criminal summons alleges that Brittany Wells Kosch unlawfully struck two children under the age of 12. One count states she slapped a 6 to 7 year-old in the head and neck area. A second count accuses her of kicking another 6-year-old in the abdomen.

The incidents were reported to have occurred on September 11.

New Hanover County Schools confirmed Kosch was hired in August 2015. She resigned on September 26, two weeks after the alleged assaults.

In a statement, the district said:
“We are aware of a complaint involving a former staff member of New Hanover County Schools. While I cannot comment on specific personnel matters or ongoing investigations, I want to be clear: the safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority. We will thoroughly, comprehensively, and diligently investigate every allegation brought to our attention.”

The district said it is cooperating with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and will conduct its own review once the criminal investigation is complete.
