Former NC lawmaker enters 2016 US Senate race

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Former state legislator Deborah Ross has joined the race for US Senate in North Carolina.

The Democrat released a short video overnight describing herself and why she is trying to unseat Republican incumbent Richard Burr next year.

Ross says too many North Carolina residents feel it has becoming harder to meet America’s promise of unlimited opportunity. She says everyone is entitled to an elected government that solves problems for good.

Ross is a Raleigh attorney who served in the state House for 10 years.

She previously worked as a lobbyist for the American Civil Liberties Union and for the Triangle-area transit authority.

Spring Lake Mayor Chris Rey is already in the race for the Democratic nomination. The primary was recently moved from May to March 15.
