Former Oak Island realty operator accused of embezzling rental funds

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — Oak Island police have arrested a Bolivia woman following a months-long investigation into alleged embezzlement involving multiple property owners.
Amy Garcia, also known as Amy Woodruff and Amy Sizemore, is charged with 13 counts of felony embezzlement and one count of felony money laundering, according to the Oak Island Police Department.
The charges stem from a four-month investigation that began in December 2025 after property owners reported concerns about Garcia’s business, Salty Carolina Vibes Realty. The business was previously located on East Oak Island Drive and closed in May 2025.
Investigators say 13 victims used Garcia as a property manager and entrusted her with collecting rental payments.
According to police, Garcia collected rent on behalf of property owners but did not distribute the funds as required. Instead, investigators say the money was used for personal expenses.
Authorities say Garcia left Brunswick County without notifying clients.
Garcia was located in Wayne County and taken into custody April 6 by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office without incident.
She is currently facing charges in Brunswick County and is awaiting further court proceedings.
