Former Topsail High coach court case continued

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Topsail High School’s former head baseball coach was expected to face a judge today, but the cases was continued.

Jonathan Granville Gehris, 34, was arrested in December on charges of assault with a female.

In January, the Pender County School District suspended Gehris with pay releasing this statement:

“Effective today, Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, Pender County Schools has suspended Jonathan Granville Gehris with pay. This suspension will allow time for an investigation and is not to be interpreted in any way as a reflection of his guilt or innocence. As this is a personnel matter, the district will issue no further comments during the investigation.”

Gehris was later charged with assault by strangulation which was an upgraded charge from the arrest.

Gehris appeared in a Pender County court room and was expected to go before a judge today, but the case was moved to March 29.
