Former WPD Mounted Unit horse dies at 31

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A former member of the WPD Mounted Unit has died.

Abigale served with WPD from 2001 through 2005, serving the community alongside her sole handler, Lynda Hunter.

Abigale died at the age of 31 years old last week and was a direct descendant of Intrepid, the nationally known race horse.

“We are forever grateful for her loyal service,” WPD said.
