Founders Park and Leland Town Hall expansion projects expected to be finished by early fall
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Two major projects in Leland are still ongoing, with one of them more than 6 months past its scheduled completion date.
Construction on Founders Park is still moving forward, even as the town of Leland continues to fine the contractor $500 per day for not meeting the deadline.
Construction began in early 2024 and was expected to be completed by last November.
But the town has noted several concerns, from the quality of some completed work to the pace of work.
Town manager David Hollis said there are just a handful of small items that need to be finished before the park can reopen.
“There’s minor stuff with the pavilion building, there’s some stuff with the stormwater ponds and parking into areas and things like that,” Hollis said. “Nothing that is like one big project that hasn’t begun.”
Work on the amphitheater has been
Meanwhile, work on the expansion to Leland Town Hall is advancing quickly.
Hollis said that the project is expected to be done soon.
“The expansion on town hall is progressing pretty good. It’s probably ahead of schedule a little bit. We, we’re likely able to see where we can move into it here in the next few months.”
The expansion will add more than 60 new officers to help the town handle more staff as it continues to grow in population.
Hollis said construction should be done by September.
After that, staff will move into the new area, while interior renovations on the older portion of town hall begin.
