Four alligators find new home at Shallotte River Swamp Park
SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) – In the past week, four new alligators have crossed state lines to find a new home at Shallotte River Swamp Park’s Alligator Sanctuary Park.
The alligators were brought in from South Georgia. The park provides a sanctuary for gators that have been confiscated and are not suitable for release back into the wild.
These alligators are between 5′ and 8′ long.
The Alligator Sanctuary was built with cooperation from NC Wildlife. Their containment area is permitted to hold 25 alligators, but park owners say it can be expanded if needed.
The park was already home to 3 relocated alligators, now there are 7 total.
Park owners say the gators dine on fresh fish carcasses from Ocean Isle Fishing Center charter’s fleet.
The alligators are available to public viewing and educational purposes.
