Four area towns among safest in North Carolina

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Four southeastern North Carolina towns, including three in Brunswick County, are among the 50 safest in the state.

The Safest Cities list from SafeWise ranks Boiling Spring Lakes 17th in the state. It’s the highest ranking for any town in our area. Others that made the list include Leland (31), Burgaw (36) and Oak Island (50).

SafeWise says the average violent crime rate of the cities on the list is 1.87 per 1,000 residents, which is roughly half the national average. The safest cities in North Carolina also boast a property crime rate that’s nearly 20 percent less than the typical US city.
