COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) –Four children killed in early morning fire near Chadbourn
The fire broke out on North Colony Road near Peacock Road. Sheriff Bill Rogers said he received the call that residents were possibly inside around 3am.
“So, I come and call our detective division out. We come got here as the fire department was outing the fire, we detected four bodies in the house once we got the fire beat down,” Sheriff Rogers said.
According to officials, the victims were 2, 4, 6, and 7 years old.
Also, two 12-year-old girls were able to escape the fire without serious injury.
Sheriff Rogers says the cause of the fire is unknown.
“We notified the fire marshal, which was here, we notified the state’s fire marshal’s office, our SBI come out to assist us, and my detectives from the sheriff’s office. We contacted the district attorney’s office, kind of explained to them that anytime we have fatalities. So, we want to make sure that we do a thorough investigation,” Sheriff Rogers explained.
