Free comic book day draws hundreds to Fanboy Comics

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Hundreds stopped by the Fanboy Comics store here in Wilmington for free comic book day on Saturday.

This is the thirteenth year that Fanboy Comics has hosted this event named “Try Something New in the New Year Free Comic Day”.

During the event, the store gave away thousands of comics to guests for free.

They could come in and select five of their favorites from the table of traditional favorites as well as some new ones for people to try.

The hope of owner Thomas Gilbert is that guests can find a book perfect for them.

“I think that there’s a comic for everyone,” Gilbert said. “The superhero stuff is really popular with the movies but we want people to know that there’s other stuff besides just that out there. There are really good stories and really great art and we want to try to get people excited about that.”

The sale continues until 7 p.m. Saturday, but if you missed out on the free comics, you can still stop by the store as they are selling all volume one comics 30 % off all month long.
