Fresh produce giveaway takes places at New Hanover County Senior Resource Center

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A New Hanover County program is assisting area community members in lightening the load for the price of produce.

On Wednesday at the New Hanover County Senior Resource Center, a “Farmers Fighting Hunger Produce Giveaway” took place.

Folks were encouraged to bring their own bag and fill up with fresh produce. There were eggs, sausage, and bread, along with greens and vegetables to be given away.

While this specific event is targeted towards area senior citizens, anyone is welcome to participate in the Farmers Fighting Hunger Program.

New Hanover County resident, Natalie Mozey, said she’s thankful to have gotten her hands on healthy options.

“I have kale and a cabbage, locally grown, and a couple of sweet potatoes,” Mozey said. “So, it’s been really nice to find out about the program. Usually, there’s a nice long line. So, fortunately the word has spread.”

The next Farmer’s Fighting Hunger Produce Giveaway will take place on Wednesday, March 20, from 2—3 p.m., at the New Hanover County Senior Resource Center.
